Many people may not realize that they are experiencing symptoms of a mental illness and do not seek help. This is unfortunate, as many of the symptoms can be relieved. Other people fear that they may have a mental problem, or that they may be going crazy. Fear and guilt can prevent these people from seeking help, as well. It can be useful to an individual who suspects they may be experiencing symptoms of a mental illness, whether temporary or chronic, to read information about psychiatric disorders. Informed people are better able and willing to seek help. Anxiety and depression are among the most common forms of mental illness in the adult population today. Many of the other mental illness have some degree of both of these symptoms incorporated in their disease process. People with chronic, debilitating or life threatening illness have these symptoms as an aspect of their illness, as well. These symptoms are treatable by both medication and therapy.
