History of the Organization

InnerWisdom, Inc. was founded by its CEO, JoAnne Mandel, LMSW, RN, CNS in 1988. Originally, the organization provided outpatient counseling to adults, adolescents, and families, with a focus on resolving childhood abuse and trauma issues.

Traditional individual, group and family counseling was provided in a clinic atmosphere. As the concept of Managed Care for behavioral health became popular, and psychiatric hospitals began decreasing services, the need for privately developed psychiatric programs became priority for the community.

The Partial Hospital Program (PHP) was opened in the fall of 1994 to complement the already existing outpatient counseling programs. Under Medicare, a Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) was established, serving those individuals who needed a more intense program than once-a-week counseling, but did not require the security of an inpatient setting.

Built around the medical model, the partial hospitalization program began treating those individuals that were chronically mentally ill, were experiencing debilitating medical problems with accompanying psychiatric symptoms, or were experiencing acute anxiety and/or depression due to specific life circumstances and changes. In 1996, a program for elders needing similar support was established, focusing on the mental health issues that accompany aging and retirement.

Currently, InnerWisdom, Inc. provides outpatient counseling services, including Partial Hospital Programs and Intensive Outpatient Programs. As psychiatric hospitals and programs throughout the community continue to decrease services, outpatient services and Clinical Activities such as InnerWisdom, Inc. provides appears to be the best option for many individuals.

Joint Commission Accreditation is paramount to the survival of a program such as InnerWisdom, Inc., as consumers require standardized treatment services before establishing a provider relationship with anyone providing Programs & Services.
